- The Brief Display gives only basic information about an
individual item (author, title, publisher, place and date of
publication, subject headings, etc.).
TIP: If your search
has retrieved an item and you can't figure out why, view the Full
Display. The match of your search term(s) may have occurred in a data
field shown only in the Full Display.
- The Full Display shows all available information
associated with a single item. NOTE: If a record includes a
Table of Contents note (for chapters in a book or songs on a recording,
for example), it will only be displayed on the Full Display.
TIP: Both the Brief
and Full Displays will include hyperlinks to additional information.
The name of the author and the subject headings assigned to the item
are linked to other items by the same author and on the same subject.
- The Technical (MARC) Display MARC (MAchine-Readable
Cataloging) is the "raw data" of bibliographic description for library
materials. This format is a communications standard used to transmit
bibliographic data among computerized systems. The Technical display
format is provided primarily as a convenience for library staff.
Extensive and detailed information can be found on the MARC
Standards web site at the Library of Congress, including, MARC 21: Concise Format for Bibliographic Data.
