Search
There are three ways to limit a search in Voyager. However, it is often
best to search without limits first and then, if necessary, redo your
search with limits applied. After selecting from available options,
click the Narrow My Search button to set the search limits.
TIP: Set search limit(s) before
choosing a search type. NOTE: Using the Exact Search screen,
you can only limit a Title and Journal Title search. However, limits
can be applied to all searches done using the Keyword Search screen.
Limits will remain in effect until you click the Clear Settings
button or end your search session.
Use the following options when...
- The Quick Limits button ...you want to limit a search by one
of the preselected limit options on the Exact Search screen (or title
results).
- The Narrow My Search button ...you want to limit a search
by a criteria not available as a "Quick Limit" or by more than one
of the limit options.
Limit options are...
- Select the equal sign (=) to limit the search to all items
published in a single year.
- Select the greater than (>) or less than (<) signs to limit
the search to items published either after or before a specific year.
- To limit by an inclusive range of years, enter the earliest year
in the Year: box and the latest year in the Range: box
(e.g., Year: 1998, Range: 2000).
Language
- Select from pull-down options. NOTE: Language may also
be a search criteria used on the Keyword Search screen.

Place of Publication
- Limits results to materials published or created in a
particular country, state, or province. Use with caution. Since only
one place of publication/creation can be recorded in the catalog record
data used by this limit, only the first named place will be retrieved.
For example, a work published both in London and New York will not be
found when limiting on works published or created in New York State or
in the United States, generally. A full list of place names, with cross-references from
names not used, is available on the Library of Congress web site. A
list of the places, with their corresponding codes, organized by continent or region, is also available on the LC web
site.
